When Fagioli plays as the lone regista, the space either side of him opens up. If the opposing midfielder receives between the lines, Dragusin has to step out. That leaves Ranieri covering two runners.

Vanoli has the defenders to switch shape. Valdepenas can play centre-back or full-back, Joao Mario and Jimenez cover both flanks -1. The question is whether the midfield screen adjusts with them.
