Watch the full-backs in the new Champions League format

With the Champions League league phase starting 8 September, one detail stands out. The new 36-team table means clubs cannot conserve energy across eight different opponents. They push forward more often.

Watch the full-back positions. If a full-back pushes high and the winger stays wide, the space behind is open. A well-organized opponent will target that channel. I always check who covers that runner before the ball moves.

Look at the half-space. The player controlling that area between the full-back and centre-back dictates the tempo. If your team's mezzala occupies it correctly, passing lanes disappear for the opposition.

A disciplined no-bet is sometimes the best coaching decision you will make all week.

Let the first ten minutes show you the real shape.

Question: Which full-back pairing from the Champions League teams do you trust most to stay connected to the centre-backs?
