The space behind the full-back

Rapid host Dinamo in the Superliga derby on 15 August. Before the ball moves, watch where the Rapid full-backs stand when they have possession. If both push high and the covering midfielder drifts centrally, the space behind them becomes the most important area on the pitch.

Dinamo's wide players will look to run into that channel. The first pass from Dinamo's defence does not need to be perfect. It only needs to find that runner before Rapid's full-back can recover. A simple ball into that space forces the covering centre-back to step out and opens gaps between the defensive units.

Give the opening ten minutes your full attention. The position of the full-backs in the first phase tells you whether the pre-match read was correct or whether someone adjusted early.

Watch where the full-back stands when his team has the ball. That is where the danger lives.

Question: How do you expect Dinamo to attack that space behind the Rapid full-backs?
