The Space Between the Lines

Watch the distance between the centre-backs and the holding midfielder when the opposition builds from the back. If that gap grows past fifteen metres, the passing lane into the striker appears. The defence cannot step and the midfield cannot track. That is where chances come from, not from a lucky bounce.

Most teams show you their shape in the first ten minutes. One centre-back pushes wide, the full-back sits deep, and the space opens on the opposite side. That is repeatable behaviour. A highlight from the thirtieth minute tells you less than the way they set up from a goal kick.

Keep your stake ordinary when you see that gap. The price must include the risk of the striker missing or the pass being blocked. A good read with a poor price is not a complete bet.
