The space after the goal

The moment a team scores, their shape changes. Not because they choose to sit deeper, but because the opposition adjusts and the defence naturally drops to protect the lead. That creates space between the lines.

Watch where the full-backs stand after a goal. If they push high, they leave pockets behind them. If they tuck in, the wide areas open. The passing lane through the middle usually disappears first. That forces the ball wide and the second balls become the key contest.

Use the first five minutes after a goal to test your pre-match assumption. If the shape matches what you expected, the read holds. If not, the space tells you where the next opportunity lies. A good read is more valuable than a quick bet.

The post-goal period often reveals more than the pre-match analysis. Watch the shape, not the score.
